Weekly Vehicle Checks β€” Seat Ibiza

Before Starting (Cold Engine)

Perform these checks once a week, ideally on the same day. Do them before driving or after the car has been parked for at least 2 hours (cold engine).

Checklist

1. Engine Oil Level

  1. Park on flat ground
  2. Open the bonnet β€” pull the interior release (driver's side footwell), then lift the safety catch under the bonnet
  3. Locate the dipstick (yellow handle)
  4. Pull out, wipe clean with a cloth, reinsert fully, then pull out again
  5. Oil level should be between the MIN and MAX marks
  6. If low: top up with the correct oil (check owner's manual β€” typically 5W-30 or 5W-40 synthetic)
  7. Do NOT overfill β€” add small amounts and re-check

2. Coolant Level

  1. Locate the translucent coolant reservoir (marked MIN/MAX)
  2. Level should be between MIN and MAX when the engine is cold
  3. If low: top up with the correct coolant mix (G12/G13 spec for SEAT)
  4. Never open the cap when the engine is hot β€” risk of scalding

3. Windscreen Washer Fluid

  1. Locate the washer fluid reservoir (blue cap)
  2. Top up with screen wash (diluted or pre-mixed depending on season)
  3. In winter, use a mix rated for at least -10Β°C (Israel rarely needs lower)

4. Tyre Pressure & Condition

  1. Check all four tyres plus the spare
  2. Correct pressures are on a sticker inside the driver's door frame
  3. Typical values: ~2.1 bar front, ~2.1 bar rear (check sticker for your load)
  4. Look for:
    • Uneven wear (alignment issue)
    • Bulges or cracks in sidewalls
    • Objects embedded in the tread
    • Tread depth β€” legal minimum is 1.6mm; replace at 2mm
  5. Use a tyre pressure gauge or petrol station air pump

5. Lights Check

Have someone help, or use a wall/window reflection:

Light How to Check
Headlights (dipped & full beam) Turn on, check both sides
Tail lights Turn on sidelights, check from rear
Brake lights Press brake pedal, check both sides + high-mount
Indicators Activate each side, check front and rear
Reverse light Engage reverse gear
Fog lights (front & rear) Toggle on, check
Number plate light Should illuminate when sidelights are on

If a bulb is out: replace promptly β€” it's a traffic fine in Israel and a safety hazard.

6. Windscreen & Wipers

  • Check windscreen for new chips or cracks (heat can spread them fast in Israel)
  • Lift wipers and inspect rubber β€” replace if cracked, torn, or streaking
  • Test washer spray and wiper operation

7. Visual Walk-Around

  • Check for new dents, scratches, or damage
  • Look under the car for fluid leaks (oil = dark brown/black, coolant = green/pink, brake fluid = clear/yellowish)
  • Ensure mirrors are clean and properly adjusted
  • Check that the aerial/antenna is intact

Notes

Israeli Context: Summer heat accelerates tyre wear and fluid evaporation. Check fluid levels more frequently May–September. Tyre pressure increases in heat β€” check when tyres are cold.
