Flat Tyre — Changing or Inflating
If You Get a Flat While Driving
- Don't brake suddenly — gently ease off the accelerator
- Signal and pull over to a safe, flat surface away from traffic
- Turn on hazard lights immediately
- Apply the handbrake and put the car in gear (manual) or P (auto)
- Place the warning triangle at least 50 metres behind the car (Israeli law)
- Wear the reflective vest if available, especially at night or on highways
Option A: Using the Spare Wheel
Equipment Location
The spare wheel, jack, and wheel wrench are under the boot floor mat.
Steps
- Remove the spare wheel, jack, and wrench from the boot
- Loosen the wheel bolts slightly (1/4 turn anti-clockwise) BEFORE jacking up — the weight keeps the wheel from spinning
- Place the jack under the correct jacking point (reinforced area under the sill — check the arrow markings or owner's manual)
- Jack up the car until the flat tyre is just off the ground
- Remove the wheel bolts fully and remove the flat tyre
- Mount the spare wheel; hand-tighten the bolts in a star pattern
- Lower the car until the tyre just touches the ground
- Torque the bolts firmly in a star pattern (110 Nm for Seat Ibiza — use a torque wrench when you reach a garage)
- Fully lower the car and remove the jack
- Stow the flat tyre and tools in the boot
After Changing
- Drive carefully — max 80 km/h on a space-saver spare
- Go directly to a tyre shop to repair or replace the flat
- Get bolts re-torqued at a garage within 100 km
Option B: Using a Tyre Inflator/Sealant Kit
Some Ibiza models come with a tyre mobility kit instead of a spare.
- Remove the kit from the boot
- Connect the sealant bottle to the compressor
- Connect the hose to the tyre valve
- Turn on the compressor — it will inject sealant and inflate
- Inflate to the pressure shown on the door sticker
- Drive slowly (max 80 km/h) for 10 minutes to distribute sealant
- Stop and re-check the pressure
- Drive to a tyre shop within 200 km — sealant is a temporary fix only
Limitations
- Does NOT work for sidewall damage, large punctures, or blowouts
- Tyre must be repaired or replaced after using sealant
- TPMS sensor may need resetting after repair
When to Call Roadside Assistance Instead
- Two or more flat tyres simultaneously
- No spare and sealant kit has failed
- Unsafe location (highway hard shoulder, unlit road at night)
- You're not confident doing it yourself
Israeli roadside assistance: Check your insurance policy; most include towing. Common services: שירותי דרך (ShirooteyDerech).
Notes
Check your spare tyre pressure periodically (every few months) — spare tyres lose pressure sitting in the boot.
