Road Accident Procedure — Israel
Immediate Actions (At the Scene)
- Stop the vehicle — it is illegal to leave the scene of an accident in Israel
- Turn on hazard lights
- Check for injuries — your passengers first, then others involved
- Call emergency services if anyone is injured: 101 (Magen David Adom / MDA) or 112 (general emergency)
- Move to safety if possible — get out of the traffic lane if the car is driveable
- Place warning triangle at least 50m behind the scene (100m on highways)
- Wear reflective vest if you have one
If There Are Injuries
- Call 101 (MDA ambulance) immediately
- Do not move injured people unless they're in immediate danger (fire, oncoming traffic)
- Provide basic first aid if trained
- Police will be dispatched automatically for injury accidents
If No Injuries (Property Damage Only)
At the Scene
- Exchange details with the other driver(s):
- Full name and ID number (תעודת זהות)
- Phone number
- Insurance company and policy number
- Vehicle registration number (מספר רכב)
- Driving licence number
- Photograph everything:
- All vehicles involved (damage + licence plates)
- The overall scene (road, positions of cars)
- Close-ups of all damage
- Any road signs, traffic lights, or road markings
- Skid marks or debris
- Note the details:
- Date, time, and exact location
- Weather and road conditions
- Names and phone numbers of any witnesses
- Do NOT admit fault at the scene — let insurance sort it out
- Do NOT sign anything you don't understand
Police Involvement
- For injury accidents: police are required
- For property-only accidents: police are generally not required, but you may file a report
- If the other driver refuses to exchange details: call 100 (police)
- Hit and run: call 100 immediately, note whatever you can (colour, make, licence plate)
After the Accident
Within 24 Hours
- File a claim with your insurance company — call the claims hotline
- Complete a claim form (טופס תביעה) — your insurer will provide this
- Send all photos and documentation to the insurer
- Visit an authorised assessor (שמאי) if directed by your insurer
- Get a medical exam if you have any pain, even minor — whiplash and soft tissue injuries can appear later
Repairs
- Your insurer will direct you to an approved garage or give you a choice
- Get a repair estimate before authorising work
- Keep all receipts
- You may be entitled to a courtesy car — check your policy

Dash cam: Strongly recommended in Israel. Footage is admissible as evidence and can protect you in disputed-fault accidents. Ensure it's recording and the SD card has space.
