Tourniquet Application
SOP-FA030 · 🩺 First Aid
Tourniquet application for life-threatening limb haemorrhage in children in Israel. Children have less blood volume than adults and can decompensate rapidly. CAT tourniquet is effective for most children aged 2 and above; SWAT-T or RATS tourniquets recommended for very small limbs. For infants, direct pressure is the primary haemorrhage control method. Apply when: When a child has uncontrollable life-threatening limb haemorrhage from any cause: blast/shrapnel injuries, amputations or near-amputations, severe lacerations with arterial bleeding, or any situation where direct pressure is insufficient or impractical to control bleeding. Children have less total blood volume than adults and haemorrhagic shock develops faster.
