Troubleshooting (4)
Sukkah walls blowing in strong Jerusalem wind: Add extra cable ties and weight to the base. Use sandbags or heavy objects along the bottom edge. In extreme wind, temporarily remove schach to prevent the whole structure from becoming a sail.
Rain during Sukkot meals: Halachically, you're exempt from eating in the sukkah when it rains enough that soup would be spoiled. Move the meal inside. Return to the sukkah when rain stops. Keep a backup indoor table setting ready.
Aravot wilting before end of Sukkot: Store in water and refrigerate between uses. Buy replacements mid-week from local vendors — most Jerusalem markets sell fresh aravot throughout Sukkot, especially before Hoshana Rabbah.
Etrog developing a brown spot: Small discoloration from natural aging is generally kosher. A spot from impact or insect damage is more problematic. Consult your rabbi if unsure. Having a backup etrog from a neighbor is helpful.
