Window & Mirpeset Cleaning
🏠 Routine v1.0 Updated 2026-03-12
Window & Mirpeset (Balcony) Cleaning
Purpose
Keep windows, shutters, and balcony clean and functional. Jerusalem's dry, dusty climate (plus periodic sharav dust storms) means windows and balconies accumulate grime quickly.
Frequency
| Task | Frequency |
|---|---|
| Interior window wipe | Monthly |
| Full window clean (inside + outside) | Every 2-3 months |
| Shutter/tris cleaning | Every 2-3 months |
| Balcony sweep | Weekly |
| Balcony mop/wash | Monthly |
| After sharav / dust storm | Within 24 hours |
Window Cleaning
- Open shutters/trisim fully
- Dust window frame and sill first
- Spray glass cleaner on window
- Wipe in a Z-pattern (top to bottom)
- Use squeegee for streak-free finish on large panes
- Wipe edges and corners with dry cloth
- Clean both sides — interior first, then exterior if accessible
- For exterior windows you can't reach: long-handled squeegee or hire professional
Shutter / Tris Cleaning (תריס)
Israeli roller shutters (trisim) collect dust between slats:
- Lower tris halfway
- Dust each slat with damp cloth, top to bottom
- For heavy buildup: spray with all-purpose cleaner, let sit, then wipe
- Clean the tracks/rails on both sides
- Raise and lower fully to check smooth operation
- Lubricate tracks with silicone spray if sticking
Mirpeset (Balcony) Cleaning
- Clear the space: move furniture, plants, drying rack aside
- Sweep thoroughly: corners, along walls, under furniture spots
- Check drain: clear any debris blocking the floor drain
- Mop or hose down: use bucket + squeegee mop, or hose if available
- ⚠️ Check below first — avoid soaking neighbors' laundry on lower balconies
- Wipe railing: clean railing with damp cloth + all-purpose cleaner
- Clean furniture: wipe down any balcony chairs/tables
- Return items to their spots; water plants if balcony has planters
Post-Sharav Cleanup
After a dust storm (חמסין / שרב):
- Wait until the storm fully passes
- Close windows, let dust settle indoors
- Vacuum or sweep indoor surfaces first
- Mop floors
- Wipe window sills — they'll have a layer of fine dust
- Clean windows (exterior will be coated)
- Sweep and mop balcony
- Shake out outdoor cushions and rugs
Safety
- Never lean out of windows to clean exterior surfaces
- Use a long-handled tool for exterior window cleaning
- Secure Ezra away from open windows during cleaning
- Ensure trisim are locked when Ezra is near windows
Notes
Israeli Context: Trisim (roller shutters) are on virtually every window and are essential for heat management and security. Keep them in good working order. If the strap frays, get it replaced before it snaps (a תריסן can fix this).
