Seasonal Decluttering

Purpose

Quarterly review and purge of unused, outgrown, or unnecessary items. Keeps the household manageable and prevents accumulation, especially as Ezra grows and his needs change rapidly.

Frequency

  • Full declutter: quarterly (September, December, March, June)
  • March timing: aligns with Pesach prep
  • Mini declutter: monthly — one area only

Decision Framework

For each item ask:

  1. Used in the last 12 months? No = likely goes
  2. Still works / fits / serves purpose? No = goes
  3. Would I buy this again today? No = goes
  4. Sentimental or irreplaceable? Keep, but store properly

After Decluttering

  1. Donate immediately — don't let the bag sit for weeks
    • Clothing: Yad Sarah, textile bins (פחי בגדים) around Jerusalem
    • Baby items: Facebook groups (Nitzanei Yerushalayim, Anglo communities)
    • Furniture: post on Yad2
  2. Trash goes out same day
  3. Sell items: Yad2 or Facebook; set a 2-week deadline — if not sold, donate

Pesach-Specific Declutter (March/April)

Pesach cleaning naturally aligns with deep decluttering:

  • Go through every cabinet and drawer (you're already checking for chametz)
  • Take the opportunity to purge while everything is out
  • Deep clean as you go — declutter + clean in one pass

Notes

Israeli Context: Textile recycling bins (פחי בגדים) are on many Jerusalem streets. Yad Sarah lends and accepts medical and baby equipment. Before chagim, community groups often organize donation drives.
