Checklist

Bathroom Deep Clean

Purpose

Thorough bathroom cleaning beyond the weekly schedule. Bathrooms are high-moisture environments that accumulate mold, limescale, and bacteria quickly — especially in Jerusalem's hard water.

Frequency

  • Weekly quick clean: covered in Weekly Cleaning Schedule
  • Deep clean: every 2-4 weeks
  • After illness: deep clean immediately once household is recovering

Prerequisites

  • Toilet cleaner, bathroom spray / anti-limescale cleaner
  • Mold remover (if needed), scrub brush, old toothbrush for grout
  • Microfiber cloths, rubber gloves, squeegee mop (מגב)
  • Ventilation — open window or run exhaust fan

Procedure

1. Preparation

  1. Remove all items from surfaces
  2. Remove bath mats, towels, and rugs — set aside for washing
  3. Open window for ventilation
  4. Put on rubber gloves

2. Toilet

  1. Apply toilet cleaner inside bowl, under the rim — let sit 10 min
  2. Scrub bowl with toilet brush, focusing under rim
  3. Wipe exterior: top of tank, handle, sides, base
  4. Clean toilet seat — top and underside
  5. Wipe floor around toilet base
  6. Flush and final wipe of bowl rim

3. Shower / Bathtub

  1. Spray all surfaces with bathroom cleaner — let sit 5 min
  2. Scrub walls, focusing on grout lines
  3. Scrub shower door or curtain tracks
  4. Clean showerhead — soak in vinegar if calcified
  5. Scrub tub/shower floor
  6. Clean drain: remove hair trap, clear debris
  7. Rinse everything thoroughly

4. Sink & Vanity

  1. Spray sink, faucet, and counter
  2. Scrub sink basin, drain, and overflow hole
  3. Clean faucet — use vinegar for limescale on chrome
  4. Wipe mirror with glass cleaner
  5. Wipe vanity/cabinet exterior
  6. Dispose of expired products

5. Walls & Fixtures

  1. Check walls for mold spots — treat with mold remover
  2. Wipe light switch and door handle
  3. Clean towel hooks/rails
  4. Wipe window sill if present

6. Floor

  1. Sweep floor
  2. Mop with bathroom cleaner
  3. Scrub grout with brush if discolored
  4. Pay attention to corners and behind toilet

7. Finishing

  1. Replace clean towels and bath mat
  2. Restock: toilet paper, hand soap, hand towel
  3. Return cleaned items to shelves
  4. Leave window open to dry

Jerusalem Hard Water Notes

Jerusalem has very hard water (high calcium/magnesium). This causes:

  • White limescale buildup on faucets, showerheads, glass
  • Treatment: vinegar-soaked cloth wrapped around fixtures for 30 min, then scrub
  • Showerhead: unscrew and soak in vinegar overnight quarterly
  • Prevention: squeegee glass shower doors after each use
