Appliance Maintenance

Purpose

Regular maintenance of household appliances to prevent breakdowns, extend lifespan, and maintain efficiency.

Monthly Tasks

Appliance Task
Washing machine Run empty hot cycle with vinegar; clean lint filter; wipe door seal
Dishwasher Clean filter; run empty cycle with vinegar; wipe door edges and seal
AC units Clean/wash filters (critical in dusty Jerusalem)
Vacuum cleaner Empty canister; check and clean filter; inspect brush roll
Microwave Wipe interior; steam-clean with bowl of water + lemon for 3 min

Quarterly Tasks

Fridge/Freezer Vacuum condenser coils; check door seals; defrost if needed
Oven Deep clean interior; check door seal
AC units Deep clean; check for unusual noises; ensure drain is clear

AC Filter Cleaning (Monthly in Summer)

  1. Turn off the AC unit
  2. Open the front panel
  3. Remove filters
  4. Rinse under running water
  5. Let dry completely (30 min)
  6. Replace filters and turn unit back on

Washing Machine Maintenance

  1. Run empty cycle at 90°C with machine cleaner or 2 cups white vinegar
  2. Clean detergent drawer — remove, scrub, dry
  3. Wipe rubber door seal — check for mold
  4. Clean filter/pump (usually bottom front) — have towel ready for water
  5. Leave door ajar between uses

Water Heater (דוד)

  • Solar (דוד שמש): heats via rooftop panels; sufficient most of summer
  • Electric (דוד חשמל): for cloudy days and winter; use timer
  • Annual descaling recommended due to hard water

If Something Goes Wrong
