Drowning
SOP-FA052 · 🩺 First Aid
Remove drowning child from water safely, assess responsiveness, and begin CPR with rescue breaths (critical for hypoxic emergency). Rescue breaths are essential — compression-only CPR is insufficient for drowning. Apply when: A child (aged 1 year to puberty, approximately 10-14 years) has been submerged or immersed in water and is unresponsive, not breathing, or breathing inadequately. Signs include: unconsciousness, absence of breathing, cyanosis (blue skin), limp body, water in or around the airway.
