Sputtering or choking during feed: Sit him up; flow too fast — use a slower nipple

Arching back during feed: Pause, burp, hold upright — possible reflux

Refusing the bottle: Don't force; try again in 30 minutes; try different nipple shape or temperature

Won't take bottle at all: Have someone other than the breastfeeding parent offer it; try different nipple shapes

Takes longer than 30 minutes: Check nipple flow — may need faster flow size

Lots of gas or fussiness after feed: Use paced feeding technique; try anti-colic bottles; check formula type with pediatrician
