First aid for asthma attacks in children in Israel, emphasising upright positioning, rescue inhaler use with spacer for young children, calm reassurance, and monitoring for worsening symptoms. Asthma is the most common chronic disease in Israeli children with 5-10% prevalence. Apply when: When a child is experiencing an asthma attack. Signs include persistent cough, wheezing, difficulty breathing (especially exhaling), prolonged expiration, chest tightness, lip cyanosis, accessory muscle use, intercostal retractions, nasal flaring, tachycardia, and sweating. Attacks frequently occur early morning or late evening. In young children who cannot describe symptoms, observe for visible respiratory distress, pale skin, weakness, and lethargy.
